Pharaoh Hound / Mixed (medium coat) Dog

HARKIN the Dog needs a home

Introducing Harkin! This boy arrived at the shelter as a stray but was never claimed! He is outgoing, friendly and full of beans. His favourite activities include playing with other dogs and running as fast as he can through open spaces - we do not recommend taking him off-leash as he has poor recall and is very fast! Harkin may do well in a home with another dog that can help burn-off some energy and keep him company. He does not appear to be fully house trained and will occasionally urinate in his kennel so his new owners must be patient and prepared to teach him to do his `business` outside. Although Harkin is very friendly, he lacks manners and would benefit from some obedience training. He is very food motivated, which may help with training, but we have noticed that he has a very sensitive stomach. When Harkin first arrived he had blood diarrhea. Even though we have tested for parasites, given dewormers and supplements, and are feeding a special diet, he still sometimes has `cow patty` poops. We recommend speaking with your veterinarian prior to adoption to discuss potential costs of taking on a pet with chronic diarrhea as he may require ongoing treatment. We would be happy to provide a copy of his medical history for their review.
